Opening: Why 403?
When 300mm isn't enough, 400mm steps in.
The 403 designation follows the same logic as 303:

403 = 400mm lens diameter, three-unit signal
While 303 signals are standard for most urban intersections, 403 signals are specified when greater visibility is required:
Wider roads – 6+ lanes or intersection spans over 25 meters
Higher mounting – Signal height above 8 meters
Longer viewing distances – High-speed approaches, visibility requirements >450m
Glare reduction – Larger lens area improves visibility in direct sunlight -3
Think of 403 as the heavy-duty version of the 303-same functionality, larger presence.
